Tech Industries That Excite Me

In the big world of tech it's hard to decide what technologies and innovations to focus on. But here I describe a couple of the industries that interest me:

Education Technology:

I believe that the standard academic system is a bit of a thing from the past.
I love the available MOOCs like Kahn Academy, Coursera, Udemy, and Lynda. The ability to learn anything from anywhere as long as you have a computer or device with internet connection is such a great step forwards towards providing education to all. I love it and hope to somehow contribute to it. Other than the online courses, there are many cool educational hardware with the purpose of teaching in a new way, mostly for kids. In this category we have robots like Dash and Sphero SPRK+. Then comes the physical institutions that actually made it happen and are implementing a curriculum and way of learning much different than the customary, such as Alt School for kids, and Minerva for an undergraduate degree.

Automation:

This is a much bigger category that includes: AI, Machine Learning, Logistics, Travel... Basically tools that make life easier to navigate by using technologies that think, plan, and make decisions for us. This industry excites me a lot as well because I believe in computers becoming seamless extensions to human logistical processes. I want to be able to travel and not have to get stressed about finding the cheapest flight, the best located accommodation, having to understand all the pros and cons in order to decide to fly or drive. This industry I also believe will replace almost all monotonous human tasks, like driving and serving a table.

Shared Economy:

How can we collectively use our resources to benefit each other? These names are only the big ones that started it all: Uber, Lyft, Postmates and Airbnb have all revolutionized the idea of a shared economy. What other things could we share? How about musical instruments, jam rooms? How about sharing a huge meal you just cooked but have no one to eat it with? I think that there are still many "Uber's for x" out there just waiting to get created.

These are probably the three main industries I'm interested in. Although, this blog post would be incomplete if I did not mentions that I am also interested in Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Games, Biotech, and 3D printing.

Seeking

I would like to work with people that are business minded or very knowledgable in one of these industries or technologies I mentioned. I work best with people who are organized, honest, blunt, self-motivated, great listener, and social (introverts could also be social!).

  1. Hi Stephanie,

I agree that automation and shared economy is in the boom these days, especially automation. But I think the easiest to execute would be the shared economy. Looking forward to what kind of ideas you come up with!

  2. Hey Stephanie-- education is something I'm very passionate about as well. Interesting that you are interested in both education and automation! I'd be interested on your take about automation affecting employment. Good luck!

  3. Hi Stephanie,

I also really love sharing economies. I think this is only the beginning of what we are seeing in the collaborative consumption world, and these virtual platforms are going to increasingly connect people in the future. I think that sharing economies are inevitable and I am excited to see how the political and economic spectrum will adapt. Thinking big, I like it!
